How reach and engagement are calculated on X

X shows a view count on every post, so this calculator can separate two questions most Twitter engagement calculators blur together: how much of your audience a typical post reaches, and how many of the people it reaches interact with it.

Reach = views per post ÷ followers × 100

Engagement rate = interactions per post ÷ followers × 100

Engagement per view = interactions per post ÷ views × 100

Read the numbers the way the benchmark does

  • A typical post, not your best. Per account, the benchmark takes the median over original posts in a 30-day window and needs at least 8 of them, so one viral post cannot move it. Leave out replies and reposts, and if you can, use the median of your recent posts.
  • Views are X’s impression counter. It also counts people who do not follow you, reached through the For You feed, and repeat views, so reach can pass 100%.
  • For interactions, add up the likes, replies, reposts and quotes on the post. The dataset reports interactions as one total per post without a breakdown by type, so read small gaps with care. Do not use the Engagements figure from X analytics, which also counts clicks.
  • Two engagement rates, far apart. Across every account we measured, the median is 0.14% by followers and 1.43% by views. Never compare one with a figure quoted on the other denominator.

X reach and engagement by follower band

Per account, the median over original posts, then percentiles across 1,005 accounts with a reliable sample. Engagement is by followers unless marked per view. Your band is highlighted once you enter a follower count.

The dataset publishes p25, the median and p75 for reach and engagement by followers, and only the median per view. The calculator uses exactly those and estimates nothing in between.

For comparison, Turkish accounts with 100K-1M followers: median reach 3.71%, median engagement 0.058%, 166 accounts.

Where the numbers come from

X (Twitter) reach and engagement 2026

The bands come from our open dataset of X accounts, published with its method, limits and downloads. The engine scans large accounts most often, so the benchmark starts at 10,000 followers, and the bands below 100,000 followers come from a cut-point sample rather than a random draw; the report explains both.

Frequently asked questions

There are two versions. By followers: interactions on a post divided by followers, times 100. By views: the same interactions divided by the post’s views, times 100. They sit far apart: across every account we measured, the median is 0.14% by followers and 1.43% by views. This calculator gives both and ranks each against accounts with a similar follower count.
By followers, the median by follower band is: 10K-30K: 0.37% · 30K-100K: 0.081% · 100K-300K: 0.059% · 300K-1M: 0.037% · 1M-3M: 0.024% · 3M+: 0.0077%. By views: 10K-30K: 1.55% · 30K-100K: 1.30% · 100K-300K: 1.28% · 300K-1M: 1.18% · 1M-3M: 1.03% · 3M+: 0.85%. A rate above your band’s 75th percentile by followers puts you in the top quarter of accounts your size.
The share of your followers a typical post is shown to: the median views on an original post divided by followers, times 100. The median by follower band: 10K-30K: 19.1% · 30K-100K: 5.47% · 100K-300K: 3.80% · 300K-1M: 3.37% · 1M-3M: 2.44% · 3M+: 0.69%. Views include people who do not follow you, so reach can pass 100%.
Because the data for small accounts is too thin to publish. In a probe of 300 catalogue accounts with 1K-10K followers, 1 had any measured posts and none had the 8 original posts a reliable reading needs. Any figure printed there would be invented, so the calculator shows your rates without a band.
A typical original post from the last 30 days: not your best, and not a reply or a repost. If you can, take the median views and interactions of your recent original posts, which is how the benchmark reads every account.
