How the TikTok engagement rate is calculated

This is not the rate most TikTok calculators show

Most TikTok engagement calculators divide the likes, comments and shares on recent videos by their views. Our benchmark is built from public profiles instead, and it uses the two lifetime counters a profile carries: total likes and total videos. This calculator measures the same way, so your result stays comparable with the bands, but it will not match a views-based rate and should not be compared with one.

Divide your total likes by your total videos to get likes per video, then divide that by your followers and multiply by 100.

(total likes ÷ total videos) ÷ followers × 100

The dataset’s own definition, quoted
Lifetime like total divided by lifetime video count, reported both absolutely and as a percent of followers. TikTok publishes no per-post data and no view counts to a logged-out reader, so this is the only engagement signal available at account level.

What to keep in mind

  • It is a lifetime average. Every like the account ever collected counts, so an account that was big a few years ago and is quiet now still shows a high rate.
  • One viral video lifts it for good. The smaller the account, the further a single video that travelled can move the ratio.
  • Comments, shares and saves are not in it. The benchmark counts likes alone, the one engagement counter it reads for every account.
  • Read it against your band. Likes grow with audience but far short of proportionally, so a rate that looks low on a large account can be normal for its size.

TikTok engagement rate by follower band

Likes per video as a share of followers, as percentiles across 21,657 measured accounts. The last column is the median likes per video in the band. Your band is highlighted once you enter a follower count.

A band counts as reliable from 100 accounts, and every band here clears it. p25 means a quarter of the accounts in the band score below that figure; p90 means nine in ten do.

Where the numbers come from

TikTok and YouTube benchmarks 2026

The bands come from our open dataset of public TikTok accounts and YouTube channels, published with its method, limits and downloads. The catalogue is built from lookups and monitoring rather than drawn at random, and it leans toward large, English-language accounts; the report explains what that means for the figures.

Frequently asked questions

Divide your total likes by your total videos to get likes per video, then divide that by your followers and multiply by 100. An account with 50,000 followers, 1,200,000 total likes and 300 videos averages 4,000 likes per video, a rate of 8.0%. It is the measure behind our benchmark of 21,657 TikTok accounts.
Measured this way, the median by follower band is: Under 10K: 15.9% · 10K-100K: 4.4% · 100K-1M: 2.9% · 1M-10M: 2.1% · 10M+: 2.2%. A rate above your band’s 75th percentile puts you in the top quarter of accounts your size.
Most of them divide the likes, comments and shares on recent videos by their views. This calculator divides lifetime likes per video by followers, because that is what the benchmark measures. The two numbers answer different questions, so compare this result with the bands on this page, not with a views-based rate.
The ratio covers an account’s whole history, so a single video that travelled far beyond a small follower base lifts it for good. In our data the 90th percentile of the under 10K band is 324.4%; in the 10M+ band it is 8.0%.
On your TikTok profile: the likes counter next to your follower count is the lifetime total the benchmark reads. For total videos, count the videos currently published on the profile.
